This March, London Frontrunners are inviting the women of London to join us for a 5 km run at 10 a.m. every Saturday morning. Spring is nigh, and the days are getting longer. What better way to start off the weekend, than a light run around Hyde Park with a group of like minded women?

This run is for all levels, beginners are as welcome as experienced runners.

Who are the London Frontrunners?

We are a group for LGBT people in London that like running. We’ve been growing steadily for over 20 years, forming a community of runners at all levels. Nearly all of us like running on the roads and in parks, some of us run for fitness and some for speed. Some of us race and many of us don’t. We’re a mixed bunch: many of us are from the UK and there’s a good mix from all over the world.

So if this is an LGBT group, are straight women allowed?

This run is open to all women over the age of 18, irrespective of sexual orientation. We are an inclusive group and welcome everyone who is interested in running with us.

Why is this organized in March?

March 8 is International Women’s Day and we are celebrating this occasion by organizing a run every Saturday in March, aimed towards women who are interested in fitness. It’s a great way to get in shape and meet new people so we hope you’ll join in.

What does it cost?

The cost is £1 per run and we will collect this from you when you show up on the Saturday morning. There is no pre-payment or fee of any sort for these four runs.

What happens during this run?

The runs will be guided by our club members who will welcome you and run with you. We meet between 9.40 – 9.50 a.m. at St Mary’s Hospital Gym, which is a short walk away from Paddington station (Bakerloo line). You can use the changing room facilities here and store your bags in the lockers if you like. (Bring a small combination lock if you plan to use the locker).  We’ll continue as a group on to Hyde Park which is a short jog away and aim to begin our run at 10 a.m. Below is a map of one of the proposed running routes.

We gather outside the Italian Gardens where we introduce ourselves, then run in a loop along the running track, back along the banks of the Long water to complete a 4.6 km loop. There will be a bit of a break, then a jog back to the gym where we shower and change. We should be done by about 11 a.m. and then we can head towards Paddington for a light brunch or coffee.

The address of the gym is: St Mary’s Hospital Gym, Praed Street, W2 1NY.

I’m not really a runner, but I have been thinking of getting more exercise.

If you’ve been considering running but are a beginner, then this is the perfect opportunity for you! This is a short and easy route, and you can run at a pace that’s comfortable for you. There will always be a club runner or two running with you and no one will be left behind.

Is there only a short run? What if I want to run longer than 5K, or faster.

That’s not a problem at all! Alongside this 5K, we will also be conducting our regular Saturday runs for more experienced runners. In fact, you will meet them before we start off on our run, as we all meet at the same place and some of them might even join us. If you are an experienced runner, you should most definitely come along and check out the regular Saturday group. You can find out more about our Saturday morning runs by clicking here.

Do I need to commit to all four Saturdays or can I come just for a trial run.

There is no commitment to running all four Saturdays, although we do hope you’ll enjoy yourself and come back again.

Why is it only for one month, will you be conducting more of these short runs in the future?

We organized these short runs based on feedback from several women, friends and other running groups, and if it turns out that you’re interested in continuing beyond March, we’ll extend this for longer.

I’m nearly convinced but I’d like to find out more

If you have any questions or concerns about this program, you can e-mail us at [email protected] with the subject line “Women’s 5K Run”. You can see more of us on our Facebook Page as well.

OK I’m convinced, I want to do this! Where do I sign up?

Fantastic! Send us an e-mail at [email protected] and send us your name and contact details to confirm your place. We do require that you let us know by Thursday evening so we have an idea of numbers and we will also need to send your name to St Mary’s so you are on the guest list and allowed access to the changing room facilities.

For run dated March 5, please e-mail us by March 3, 11 p.m.
For run dated March 12, please e-mail us by March 10, 11 p.m.
For run dated March 19, please e-mail us by March 17, 11 p.m.
For run dated April 2nd, please e-mail us by March 31, 11 p.m.

We’re looking forward to running with you. See you at the last run x
