Club Championships: races, medals and a drag show

Each year, London Frontrunners members compete in our Club Championships, a series of races culminating in a prize-giving ceremony and celebration. We caught up with Race Secretaries Francis and Dennis to find out more.

What are the London Frontrunners Club Championships?

The Club Championships have been running for five years.

They’re a series of races, selected by the Race Secretaries, that club members compete in as part of an internal club competition.

Other running clubs have similar initiatives with their members.

How does it work?

Members sign up to a number of races throughout the year.

The race distances included are 1 mile, 5 miles, 5k, 10k and half marathon.

The races generally follow the trend of shorter distances at the start, building towards a half marathon later in the year.

Club members are ranked on their results and scored from 500 downward.

Why should members take part?

The idea behind the competition is to get more of our members involved in racing and participating within London Frontrunners, regardless of their ability and experience.

The Club Champs are meant to be fun.

They’re a chance to compete against your peers, to make new friends and to have a great celebration at the end to mark the winners of the competition.

Last year, to crown our winners and to celebrate the competition, we had a fun social at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern, one of London’s most iconic LGBT venues.

We had exclusive use of the venue before it was opened to the public for their Sunday cabaret.

What are the plans for this year’s Champs?

The first race in the 2022/23 Club Championships is the Eltham Park 5 in June, a 5-mile race through park and woodland terrain with a great atmosphere.

The Race Secretaries aim to include some exciting new races in this year’s Club Championships so watch this space!
